Tabletop products such as ceramic and glassware and metal cutlery are food contact materials used for serving and consuming food and drink. They are regulated under the FCM framework (e.g. assimilated Regulation (EC) 1935/2004) and national measures, with a focus on metal migration. Decorative items without realistic food contact fall under general product safety, while items used to hold or serve food, or with drinking-contact rims, are treated as food contact materials.
